Portal to Rawk Garten - pics

It's been some slow blog days lately - I'm post whoring as usual, but no one is biting...maybe that will change.

Drums rolling...wait for it...wait...

That's right, a portal to Rawk Garten! Jesse and Josh put in some work early in the day, but left me the glory of the last 50-60 yards. There is definitely a good bit of benching (along the fence line only)  and turn work to be done in LFL, but the corridor is 100% cut and cactus are cleared!

There were wheels down on it right after I punched through. Roger, Strava guy doing repeats on DT. He's been riding the trail and loves it.

A couple was watching me as I was breaking on through to the other side..."Did you do this on your own?"
I'm thinking...are they wanting to know if I did it without permission or I am solo... I ask, "Do you like it?" They love it. The girl is an Ultrarunner and stumbled upon it recently and is using it to train on now.

So, we are more or less at RG, but need to work the tread a bit to really be there, then we have plenty of work to get the trail over RG and through the ridge above before we punch out to DT.

  1. HAHA Thanks, Eric. Thanks to all of you for building this beast in my backyard. I haven't ridden anywhere else since given the heads up about it. I anxious to see this Rawk Garten. I'll definitely be adding more to the collection bucket to help with the cause!
This was from my last visit to de-cep-tion

  3. Well well I got some quick free time so weekday did I do with it. I jammed over to deception for an hour and I treaded through the rest of the way through the portal. I also hit up LFL and it is good to go maybe I little smoothing needed at most. I did not do the turn. And I knocked off all the edges I left the other day. I did not tread up to RG. Figured leave it til we work on it more. We don't want anyone getting hurt now. Ok that's my day. Like the rest of the trail there are some stumps that need removal.

  4. Just went out for a quick lunch ride. I dropped off a couple cans of pruning sealer and a new saw. Hope it helps.
I saw the "Rawk Garten", holy $hit! You might end up renaming that to "Severed Taint" once it starts getting ridden by mortals :)

    Thanks again, all!

    1. Thanks a bunch! Just so you know - we really try to avoid cutting oaks and when we do we seal them - so the seal will come in handy. In fact to cut that open to RG I made 3 oak cuts and sealed them (we have a full can in the bucket).

As for RG - it will get a lot of "fill" from the surrounding rawks and from that big mound of earth right beside it (The Hump). The plan is to make it look much more challenging that it is.

The saw is definitely in order, I have killed 3 saws in 3 work sessions.

    2. yeah rawk garten is nice going down it but going back up it as-is will take a level of skill I'll never have, but I can't speak for the rest of you trailblazers. with some fill I reckon it'll still be a bitch after that 6 ish miles going up.
