Deception is a 100% rider designed and built trail. The trail is in the process of becoming an official trail of the Williamson County Parks and Rec and is an Austin Ridge Rider supported trail. The designers and builders will continue to be the primary trail stewards and are official volunteers for Wilco and Trail Stewards for ARR.
Deception is NOT Walnut Creek and it's not meant to be EASY - do not modify the trail, elevate YOUR skills.
Mulligan is part of the Deception Trail System along the Brushy Creek Regional Trail (BCRT).
Of the Deception Trails, Mulligan is the closest to the Brushy Creek Sports Park. Many trail users access the trails from the Sports Park, this typically makes Mulligan the first trail users ride when they come to ride Deception. Most people that start at the Sports Park will park at the west end near the Skate Park, Basketball Courts and Disc Golf Course.
Mulligan is roughly .5 miles in length and is generally ridden in one direction starting on the path to the left just after crossing the Brushy Creek Regional Trail (BCRT) bridge that leads from the Sports Park towards the YMCA. This is the tightest trail in the system with several tight turns, tree gates and a very narrow corridor. Despite its slow speed it gives the rider the sensation of riding very fast due to this tight corridor. It's a relatively easy trail with only a few minor technical features. The first of which is a very short but steep rocky climb, followed immediately by a right turn into a ledge drop - this drop is easily rolled or hucked. The next technical feature is another very short steep climb into a hard right turn that leans to a G-out and u-turn into the final G-out. Finally, to exit the trail there are two options, a very easy downhill along the final slope or just a few yards up the trail further is the drop called Cru Jones (if you haven't watched the movie "Rad" you should, if you like cheesy 80s flicks). Cru Jones is also very easily rolled, but much more fun to launch from. If you give it a good pedal mash just after you start heading down you can air out a few feet landing perfectly onto the natural roll out. Be careful to brake quickly before barging onto the BCRT.
Below are maps showing Mulligan highlighted in the yellow, as well as pictures taken on the first day we started building it as well as our wonderful planning map including the future extension to make Mulligan a full mile long.
