The section at the top of The Rim (aka Rim Job) that goes along the back of the new houses is closed. This section of trail has been rerouted a few feet down hill. There are Park Boundary signs and blockages to help control this reroute. The trail that goes around Dave's Ditch and enters the ditch from the west side near the bottom is also closed.
Due to the trail going 1) onto private property (an environmental easement) and 2) a historically sensitive area the county was required to close these sections off. It is very important to respect these official trail closures, if the county cannot manage to keep people away from these areas more drastic measures may be required. These measures could have a much more significant negative impact to The Rim and Dave's Ditch. Please know that we have to negotiate with the county to keep The Rim and Dave's open and they will remain open ONLY if trail users respect the closures.
The Rim Trail and Dave's Ditch remain open, the connector trails from Dave's Ditch to The Rim on the EAST side of Dave's also remain open. It is only the area along the houses that connect to the WEST side of Dave's Ditch and the trail west of Dave's Ditch that are closed.
DO NOT remove the boundary signs or fence, do not remove the blockage and do not use these trails. If you want to continue to enjoy The Rim and Dave's Ditch respect the reroute and closure.

Deception is a 100% rider designed and built trail. The trail is in the process of becoming an official trail of the Williamson County Parks and Rec and is an Austin Ridge Rider supported trail. The designers and builders will continue to be the primary trail stewards and are official volunteers for Wilco and Trail Stewards for ARR. Deception is NOT Walnut Creek and it's not meant to be EASY - do not modify the trail, elevate YOUR skills.
