Deception is a 100% rider designed and built trail. The trail is in the process of becoming an official trail of the Williamson County Parks and Rec and is an Austin Ridge Rider supported trail. The designers and builders will continue to be the primary trail stewards and are official volunteers for Wilco and Trail Stewards for ARR. Deception is NOT Walnut Creek and it's not meant to be EASY - do not modify the trail, elevate YOUR skills.

Hmm. Guess it won't play. Oh well
ReplyDeleteEither way, we're getting some real mileage out there now. We'll be at 5mi in no time. Way more than any of us thought possible.
ReplyDeleteGot the Mini Vortex cut and treaded. There's a gigantic log to cut through where I stopped treading. I'll need help on that one, but it's pretty rotten. I dunno, we'll see.
ReplyDeleteRan into a guy that said his company built the regional trail. He had good things to say, and I could tell he was a top blower. Said he was involved with the building of Slinky and some other trails he mentioned in that area (when he used to live over there).
Anyways, another little piece done. This next piece is really cool going along the ravine. I'm pretty sure this is the beginning of Damn You (pretty long climb up).
Saw a guy cutting across trail to get out today. I tried to catch him, but I was riding the trail the proper way and he lost me.
Sweet. I think I will be out there Tue. Any distress skids on the drop into ravine?
ReplyDeleteHahaha, it didn't look like it, unfortunately but that hit is going to be a nice steep one. We'll have to see if the Barneys lock up the brakes and tear it up like the rest of the steep parts.
ReplyDeleteEric and I were discussing rerouting a couple of spots that are perpetually loose from people skidding on them (a note to anyone reading this - the goal is to NOT skid down hills and to carry momentum...feathering the brakes is key)...anyways, I wouldn't mind rerouting the spots, but for now I personally am able to ride them without spinning out. That isn't supposed to sound "ooooh look at me"...it's simply to say that I have low motivation to haul the McLeod, loppers, and saw around to reroute things. That's my take on it. Eric might have a different opinion once his shoulder is functional again.
I rode the Mini V up but didn't ride it going down. It rode fine up the hill, so until I ride it down (or you do), we can modify as needed (if at all).
I might be able to get out Thursday around 4pm. If that's the case, I'll just drive out to Satellite and walk in to maximize working time.
i was able to cut some at the end late last nite,
ReplyDeletei think the part just at the begining of eric's climb
hope to get out there some time this week
Nice, thanks Marty.
DeleteSerious thought might be given to allowing one quick cut with a chainsaw and that big ass downed tree at the base of "Everyone Hates Eric".
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome that you guys are already there. I bet that Mini Vortex is the shit. Can't wait to ride it.
I know it's very early, but my arm/shoulder is 10X further with range of motion and movement than my right arm was last year. I expect to be MTBing again in February.
I'll try to get out there and hike the progress this weekend.
That tree is very rotten. I'm thinking if we can just cut about half way on each side of the trail we can probably break it and just cut out a piece and ride through it. I'm gonna hack at it next time I get out there if Josh doesn't beat me to it. We'll also most likely need to do something to the little "rock shelf" at the base of that line. Either that or we can leave it. It'll be the source of many-an-endo (or at least some wrist pain/fork blowouts) if left as is.
DeleteI'm also looking forward to riding down the mini V. It might need some tweaking.
Whatever works, I didn't check it for rot - I figure since we have Josh, it could be concrete and he'd cut it with a blade of wet grass.
DeleteThat shelf can probably just be hammered down a bit to be more roll-friendly.
You start flagging Tree-Hugger yet? That should be some sweet technical goodness there. Failure in that section needs to be painful, humiliating...I mean humbling and bloody.
Nah, haven't started up there yet. This stuff is so thick that I'll probably wait until we get closer. Josh and I are going to flag the balls out of it soon, though. This weekend I should be chipping away at "Eric Sucks" and inching closer to that part.
DeleteHa. Yeah usually a wet blade of grass would suffice. But I think I will make it easy on my self and use my leatherman.
