I will be out there Saturday mid-morning to early/mid afternoon. I'll work on flagging new trail from the end. I'll do the same on Sunday morning.
I will really focus on flagging the rest of the Hollows to the D-Track before Nov 30. I have a vision for the rest of the Hollows over to the D-Track that I think will make great use of the real estate and features. I will be out of commission for a while. I am having shoulder surgery on Nov 30. Hopefully, PrePlunge and Hollows will keep everyone busy while I'm out.
You guys did an excellent job on the Trap while I was out of country in April, so I have no illusions about being "needed", but I would like to contribute significantly before I am a useless invalid.
I have 3 weekends and 3 Tuesdays before I am out, I will try to make the most of them. I am not promising that I will be out there each one of those days, but I'll do what I can.
Mike - check out this berm - awesome use of rocks to back a large berm - we might consider this on some of the big turns.

And peep what this old bastard did, pretty nice:

And CMC's work at The Nut - using logs as backing (we have a few cedars lying around):

Great berm vid by some of the Austin crew resp for Redbox and 9th Street:

Deception is a 100% rider designed and built trail. The trail is in the process of becoming an official trail of the Williamson County Parks and Rec and is an Austin Ridge Rider supported trail. The designers and builders will continue to be the primary trail stewards and are official volunteers for Wilco and Trail Stewards for ARR. Deception is NOT Walnut Creek and it's not meant to be EASY - do not modify the trail, elevate YOUR skills.

Good stuff. That's basically intuitively what I do. I first line the turn with rocks where I think the berm should go, then I just dig out the off camber part and pull the dirt onto the interlocked rocks, just on a smaller scale. I have just missed some of the lines where the berms should be on a bit tighter line, etc.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna nightride tomorrow, wheels down at about 8:30pm. Got my primary bike fixed (did the work myself) so I'm going to test ride it tomorrow before I take it out of town on a camping trip. I just hope I'm not walking home tomorrow.
I'll likely be out closer to noon. Testing (work) is delayed and my tire just isn't going to make it. The gash in the tread is just too big and I don't trust the patch job I did, so I have to run to get more sealant and seat up my last spare tire. TBH I am not entirely sure I will make it out, but we'll see.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you wanna do a night ride let me know. I'll be wheels down at 8:30 and probably riding for about 3 hours.
DeleteOk, so my only chance to be near the trail at all will be Tuesday night for a nightride (obviously).....anyways, I'll be wheels down and ready to roll at 8:30pm. Looks like it could be a coldish one. I'm looking at riding about 3 hours (only because I don't have to get up until 8am the next morning).
ReplyDeleteThat's my story and I'm sticking to it. Unfortunately, I won't be able to work on the trail at all until maybe next Tuesday.
Well, due to my impending surgery I am being taken advantage of on the domestic front. Saturday, work took much longer than expected, so I only had time for a ride. Ride was great, the loose stuff towards the end if getting better in some spots, but worse in others. I think the big tree climbing turn - not the one in the ravine, but in the hollows. The climb up to the cradle is also a bit sketchy...I fear a re-route might be needed at some point if the soil keeps breaking away. Time will tell.
ReplyDeleteSunday I was completely hemmed at home dealing with honey-dos and fear I will be hit with more, especially with the Holidays coming.
I will be out tomorrow around 4 to flag until dark and then ride a bit. I might ride tonight, but not counting on it.
Not sure who did it, but someone cut the big dead tree that we were planning on cutting near the tool stash.
Finally, I received huge kudos from a few guys that rode the trail this weekend for the first time.
I have only been out twice to run. Haven't had much time for work. I picked up some side work this and next week so that coupled with the holidays is just gonna slow Shit down. No worries we will knock it out. I cut the dead tree last time I ran it. Next time I go out I will be trying to complete the cutting of the pre plunge. I also might crib a place or two on the spots that are getting ate up but able to be saved. Good luck in your recovery or school or honey do'a whatever it is we got going and once holidays are done I think so real big progress will be seen.

DeleteYeah, I was hoping to get out there today, but my daughter has a great memory. Apparently I mentioned a week or so ago that I might be able to take her to Walnut today, so that's what I'm doing. Definitely awesome that she wants to ride trails at 4 years of age, so I'll take it.
DeleteI won't even be riding the trail tonight, so the earliest I will be able to contribute again is next Tuesday, then gone over the whole Thanksgiving stretch (Thurs-Sun). The only good news there is I'll get to ride Government Canyon in San Antonio over the break. LOVE that trail system. It's a real grinder with spots of flow. Definitely flows more on a 29er (surprise) but is a blast on 26" wheels as well. Definitely harder on 26. If you ever get out there, plan to carry lots of water and prepare for the worst....once you are on the trail system, you are alienated from civilization. My phone didn't even have a signal last time I went, and I broke my chain twice.
Anyways, I digress. Happy Thanksgiving to all and looking forward to December where I vow to remorph into a trail building beast.
I am out for today, dog is sick and I have an appt for 3:30.
ReplyDeleteSat morning is maybe.
Sun morning for sure (unless shit pops up).
