Currently we have progressed back to above Jagger's where I created the "Labyrinth". It's a tight, twisty, slow tech section. It's not crazy tight or too technical, but it will definitely slow you down, give you a physical break, but work your head. We have punched back out of these woods and started to head back east, but instead of have a long line heading back, we are milking the terrain and real estate in a small depression before the rock ridge. This will be "Snake Ridge", named for the trail I am about to flag that will S up and down the rocks - expect a pretty technical section here. As of y'day Kevin and I were working the small depression, undulating back and forth across this small dry "creek" - this is flagged to the point back above Jagger's (RED hand drwan area in the photo.
This "map" is a little busy, so let me 'splain....
- Hand drawn RED = Labyrinth (completed 100%) and the flagged small depression which is partially cut/bitched as well.
- Yellow = next phase including "Snake Ridge", the line isn't even a general idea beyond snake ridge, just there to illustrate the possibilities.
- Blue area = real estate for the next phase - once this is used up we move on passed the ravine an start working west.
Regarding the Blue Area - there is a lot of elevation variation including 2 creek crossings, one of which is wide and generally flat, the other is a steep narrow ravine. The latter could be very interesting if we plan it well and make the most of the terrain. Closer to the neighborhood is another small "ridge", this one is very "bouldery", some steps, but more like big boulders - it would be nice to use this, but it's pretty close to some of the houses.
It's pretty exciting that we're potentially very close to moving on to the west of Jagger's. The next section between Jagger's and the Jeep Trail is smaller, but significantly more wooded and it appears to have 4 ravines - this could make for lots of fun.
TODAY - 5/29/12 Mike and I will be out from 4-6pm. We will make sure that Snake Ridge is flagged and hopefully a significant stretch more. So c'mon out!
TOOLS - Please keep them all together towards the working end of the trail - it's much easier to move them along as we go than trek them half a mile. I have added T-paper and another lopper to the stash. THANKS!
FLAGS - there are some stray flags along the earlier sections of trail - please grab them if you see them. Generally I have been walking in cross-country from the hood, so I rarely pass them, but Mike's video reminded me that they are there. If the tread/trail is obvious, pull up any flags you see on existing trail and put them in the bucket. THANKS!
Mike, Brian and I hit it hard y'day... Instead of flagging a whole bunch we concentrated on making what we did flag rideable. We are rideable halfway into Snake Ridge and probably have about 2-3 hours worth of flagging is laid out. So if anyone heads out there, there is enough flagged to keep them busy for a few hours. I think we left a small section in the depression before Snake Ridge un-treaded. Might require some McCleoding or possibly just feet and wheels on it.
ReplyDeleteMe and Kevin rode it tonight pretty good. Have I mentioned how flat out fun the trail is shaping up to be?
